The joint virtual meeting between the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) and the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM), about the regional, international and bilateral issues, was held on Saturday, November 6, 2021.

The joint virtual meeting between the Institute for Political and International Studies (IPIS) and the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PISM), about the regional, international and bilateral issues, was held on Saturday, November 6, 2021.

The meeting was attended by Mr.Mohammadhassan Sheikholeslami, President of IPIS; Mr.Majid Ghafelehbashi, Research Deputy for IPIS; Seyedkazem Sajjadpour, Foreign Minister’s Advisor; Aliakbar Jokar, Director of 2nd Department of East Asia; Seyed Mohammadali Robatjazi, Acting Head of Disarmament and  Arms Control Department; Ali Eghbali Zarch, Saeid Ghaderi, Javad Kachouian, Hossein Mollaabdollahian and Alireza Bikdeli, Senior Experts of IPIS; and Mr.Stawomir Debski, Director if PISM; Karol Wasilewsky, Arkadiusz Legiec, Patryk Kugiel, Lukasz Kulesa and Patrycja Sasnal, Senior Researchers of PISM.

The meeting was held in the form of three panels, “Bilateral Relations: cultural, economic and political ”, “Major Regional Developments: Afghanistan, the EU, Persian Gulf, and the Caucasus”, and  “ International Issues: the JCPOA, Covid-19, the Approach of the EU, US and Russia” .During the meeting the participants  exchanged their opinions.

Here are the major topics touched upon at the meeting:

• Iran and Poland enjoy deep historical and cultural relations. Iran has a good image in Poland, an opportunity that should be tapped into to expand bilateral ties. The two countries are situated at two strategic geographical points in two important regions, a matter which alone can lay the ground for mutual cooperation between the two countries at higher levels.
• Two important EU documents include the Global Gateway Document for connection to Asia to advance the regional connections and to near Asia to Europe, as well as the cooperation strategy in the indo-pacific, which Iran, considering its strategic position and situation, can be a pivotal player in.
• The corona pandemic is one of the thorniest problems that the world has faced. As a result of the impacts of the pandemic, the relations of the countries, too, have been influenced, and all countries’ relations have downgraded on all dimensions.
• The military interference, led by the US, in the region has not led to stability and national, regional and global progress, but to instability of the regional countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Libya.
